I just picked up a nice large backlit sign on Craigslist. I took some steel wool to a part of the frame and it cleans up nice. It would take some major time to do the whole sign by hand with steel wool. Any other ideas of a buffer and some buffing compound or other way to clean up without all the elbow grease? Maybe some detailers have some ideas.

If the sign is anodized aluminum, you'll ruin it with steel wool. Klean Wall will remove stains without removing any resistance to corrosion.

Dittos. I've seen some very expensive aluminum and stainless ruined with steel wool.

A good wheel cleaner can work wonders.

If you want a polished look you can use a rotary buffer and some heavy cut compound with good results but it is alot of work.

I may start with acid and work from there.

I just tried some kleen wall on the sides and it worked great. The strips that hold the sign panels in place do not seem to clean up as nice with the kleen wall. Thanks for the great info.
